Depression Counseling

Depression can feel like a disconnection from your body. It can make everyday life feel heavy and colorless. We understand depression not as a flaw, but as a sign that something deeper within you needs care, rest, or reconnection. Together, we explore the emotional, physical, and relational layers of your experience. Using a collaborative approach, we’ll identify the patterns of thought and behavior that keep you feeling stuck. Using practical tools, we’ll work to build practical tools to manage low mood, regain motivation and reconnect with what brings meaning and joy to your life.

Healing from depression is possible, and it starts with having the right support and space to begin again.

Anxiety Disorders

If you’ve ever found yourself up late searching “why does it feel hard to swallow,” “what if I throw up in public,” “panic attack or something serious,” or even “why am I so anxious around people” or “why do I overthink every social interaction,” you’re not alone and you’re not overreacting.

At Nurivae Psychotherapy, we specialize in treating a range of anxiety disorders, including health anxiety, panic disorder, social anxiety, and specific phobias such as fear of choking (phagophobia), fear of vomiting (emetophobia), and medical or health-related fears. These experiences often show up as constant body checking, difficulty eating or swallowing, avoiding certain foods or public places, fear of embarrassment in social situations, intrusive thoughts about getting sick, or feeling stuck in cycles of overthinking and physical anxiety symptoms.

Using evidence-based approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and exposure-based techniques, we work to reduce anxiety symptoms, challenge fear patterns, and rebuild a sense of safety in your body and daily life. Therapy is paced, supportive, and tailored to help you gradually face what feels overwhelming so you can feel more in control, more present, and less limited by anxiety

Grief & Loss Support

Honoring loss, nurturing healing, and finding meaning again

Grief changes the way we see ourselves and the world around us. It can bring deep sadness, confusion, or a sense of disconnection from life as it once was. Grief counseling offers a tender space to be with what has been lost, whether through death, change, or the quiet endings that life sometimes brings, it touches every part of us. Rather than rushing toward closure, our work together focuses on creating space for your grief to be seen, felt, and honored.

We’ll help you explore how to make room for painful emotions while staying connected to your values and the things that matter most. Together, we’ll focus on finding a way forward that honors your loss and supports healing at your own pace.

Life Transitions & Stress Management

Finding balance and meaning through change

Change, whether in your personal life or career can bring about uncertainty, self-doubt, and overwhelming feelings. Even positive transitions or professional shifts can leave you feeling ungrounded or burnt out. In therapy, we’ll work together to help you manage stress, navigate change, and move forward with clarity and confidence.

Using evidence-based stress management tools, we’ll identify your strengths, build practical coping strategies, and create balance between work and personal life. Together, we’ll focus on acceptance, resilience, and rediscovering what brings you purpose and peace during times of transition.

Disordered Eating

The thoughts you feel ashamed to admit about food are the same ones so many others are silently struggling with.

We support individuals struggling with binge eating, disordered eating patterns, and body image concerns. This may look like cycles of restriction and overeating, feeling out of control with food, intense guilt or shame after eating, or constantly trying to “get back on track.” For some, this also shows up after a weight loss program where what started as structure now feels like obsession, anxiety, constantly checking the scale or fear around food. For others, especially athletes or high-achieving individuals, it can look like over-exercising, rigid food rules, or tying self-worth to performance or appearance.

Our approach is grounded in a Health at Every Size (HAES)-aligned, weight-neutral perspective, where the focus shifts away from control and toward understanding. Together, we explore the underlying patterns driving your relationship with food like all-or-nothing thinking, perfectionism, body distrust, and emotional avoidance while building skills to reduce binge urges, challenge food rules, and reconnect with your body’s cues. We’ll help you untangle guilt and shame, reduce the constant mental noise around eating, and develop a more flexible, sustainable way of nourishing yourself so that food no longer feels like a daily battle.

This work isn’t about willpower. It’s about healing your relationship with food through evidence-based approaches. We focus on reducing guilt and shame, creating more flexibility with eating, and helping you feel more at peace in your body and daily life.

Nutrition-Informed Counseling

Supporting emotional wellness through mind-body nourishment

Our relationship with food and our bodies is deeply connected to our emotions, self-esteem, and overall well-being. Nutrition-informed counseling is a therapeutic approach that focuses on the psychological and behavioral aspects of eating, rather than prescribing diets, meal plans, or specific nutrition interventions. This service is ideal for adults who want support in managing emotional eating, stress-related eating, body image concerns, general disordered eating patterns, and for those who want to cultivate a healthier, more compassionate relationship with food and their body. We explore thoughts, emotions, beliefs, and patterns around eating, using evidence-based strategies. You’ll learn skills to identify triggers, reduce stress-related or emotional eating, and build self-compassion, while developing sustainable coping strategies that support mental health and overall life balance.

Chronic Illness &

Medical Trauma Therapy

We specialize in supporting individuals navigate the emotional impact of chronic illness, chronic pain, and life-changing diagnoses. This can include adjusting to a diagnosis, feeling overwhelmed by ongoing symptoms, difficulty coping with medical trauma or struggling with uncertainty about your health. Many clients also feel dismissed or unheard in the healthcare system, leading to anxiety, self-doubt, or difficulty trusting providers or the healthcare system overall.

These experiences often show up as constant worry about symptoms, panic before appointments, decision fatigue, or feeling exhausted from trying to advocate for yourself.

We work to reduce anxiety, process your experiences, and build practical tools for navigating appointments, advocating for yourself, and feeling more grounded in your day-to-day life. This work is about helping you feel more supported, more confident in your care, and less alone in your health journey.
